Hatching
A tale of transmutation
Once upon a time, in an exotic overgrown forest island afloat in the Pacific, there lived a tribe of subterranean creatures. They inhabited a labyrinth of underground dens, burrows and cocoons where they huddled together whispering tales of the world above. Their mythology was populated with stories of over ground inhabitants – powerful carnivorous gods that inspired fear and reverence amongst the underground population. Sightings of these deities were scarce, but their awe inspiring presence could be heard and felt daily.
For this exhibition at the aptly named Laforet department store ContainerPLUS create a fictional illustrated diary of one of the subterranean creatures who dares to break the mould. He overcomes his tribe’s anxieties and decides to venture above ground. To see what he is confronted with and what he is transformed into you will need to delve into Laforet yourself.
ContainerPLUS is a multidisciplinary art and design collective based in London, UK. They work in the fields of illustration, photography, set design and animation. The core members are Nicola Carter, Patricia Niven and Luise Vormittag.
